![]() ![]() I am certain others will have better information and better ideas, but that is where I am coming from. I would just as soon keep a box of live rattlers under my bed as have that rifle in my house. That way I would not have to worry about it. 30/06 ammunition in M1 Garands, 1903s, and 1903A3s that is loaded beyond 50,000. Bearing serial number 8764, this legendary lever-action rifle was. Quite clearly a Rem Rand frame, proper serial number and property mark. On June 23, 1903, soon after adoption of the M1903 rifle, the commanding officer of Rock Island Arsenal was ordered to begin plans for manufacture of this new rifle. What to do?.If it were mine, I would take off all usable parts and pitch the receiver in the ocean. In addition we have parts for model 1903, 1903A3 and Krag. Even though rather crude by pre-war standards, the 03A3 was a strong and serviceable rifle that could be made much faster and much less expensively than previous M1903 variants. In either case, the quality could be suspect. This final pattern was adopted as the 'M1903A3.' Large numbers of M1903A3s were made by Remington and the Smith-Corona Typewriter Co. I would want to make darn shure the rifle never had one before I handed it to a BATF agent.Ĥ) If it never had a SN if might be some kind of knock off or went out the back door in some workers lunch box. ![]() if they ever had one, it is a Federal Criminal offense to remove it.IF.the rifle had ever been involved in Interstate Commerce and there is no way, an 03 has not cross a state line during it's lifetime.ģ) If it never had a serial number, it can be numbered, but a BATF agent must do it and all kinds of paperwork filled out so the SN is recorded by the Feds. Perhaps it was a low numbered receiver and somebody wanted to conceal that fact.Ģ) Prior to 1968, firearms were not required to have serial numbers.BUT. Having that rifle around would make me very uncomfortable, becauseġ) If might have had the serial number polished off. ![]()
